Callouts are used similarly to text boxes to write annotations on a chart. The major difference is that the Callout allows you to add arrows pointing form the corners of the tool to various points on the chart.

To add the tool to your chart, select the tool from the Drawing tool group, and left-click on the area where you wish to add the tool. Next, type the text that you want displayed. Optuma will then draw the tool using the default settings. You can then left-click Add Arrow under the Actions menu and left-click a desired location on the chart to add the arrow.

Actions & Properties

Add Arrow: Allows you to draw an arrow from the corner of the Callout tool to a specific location on the chart.

Add to Toolbar: Adds the selected tool to your custom toolbar.

Apply Settings to All: When multiple Callout tools have been applied to a chart, page or workbook, this action can be used to apply the settings of the one selected to other instances of the tool. This is a great time saver if an adjustment is made to the tool - such as line colour - as this allows all the other Callout tools in the chart, page or entire workbook to be updated instantly.

Copy Tool: Allows you to copy the selected tool, which can then be pasted onto a different chart window.

Move to Back: If the tool is displaying in front of other tools or indicators clicking this action will move the tool view to the background.

Move to Front: If the tool is displaying behind other tools or indicators on the chart, clicking this action will bring the tool to the forefront.

Restore Default Settings: Click this action if you have adjusted the default settings of the tool, and wish to return to the standard properties originally installed with Optuma.

Save Settings as Default: If you have adjusted any of the tool’s properties (colour, for example) you can save the adjustments as your new default setting. Each time you apply a new Callout to a chart, the tool will display using the new settings.

Delete: Deletes the tool from the chart

Tool Name: Allows you to adjust the name of the tool, as it’s displayed in the Structures Panel.

Colour: Allows you to select the colour of the text within the tool.

Alignment: Allows you to select how the text is aligned against the tool’s anchor point. The options are right, left, centre.

Font Size: Sets the size of the text within the tool. To adjust the font size, click and drag the slider, left to make the text smaller or right to make the text larger.

Width: Sets the width of the text box. To adjust the width, left-click and adjust the number, or left-click and drag up or down to increase or decrease the size of the box.

Floating Text: Tick this checkbox to set the tool as a floating object on the chart. This means the text will remain in the same position on your screen, even when moving forwards or backwards along the chart.

Show Background: Will display a solid Callout background.

Background Colour: Allows you to select the background colour of the tool. By default it will match the charts background, but this can be changed to any other colour available in the selector.

Background Transparency: Allows you to adjust the transparency of the background (when enabled).

Show Border: Ticking this checkbox will add a border to the outside of the tool.

Border Line Style: Expanding this property will show options for the display style of the border line (when enabled). This includes Line Style (Solid, Dashed, Dotted, etc), Line Width, Line Colour and Transparency).

Tool Transparency: Use this slider bar to adjust the transparency of the tool. Moving the slider to the left will increase the transparency of the tool.

Visible: Un-tick this checkbox to hide the tool from the chart.

Lock Tool: When enabled this tool can’t be deleted from the chart or have any properties adjusted
