Creating a Template

By Optuma Team · Updated 2020-07-22

Update: Templates are an older system which have been in Optuma for a long time, but have since been made obsolete by the more versatile Page Layout and Chart Layout systems.

From Optuma v1.5 the template options will be hidden automatically from view unless you have existing templates saved.

If you do wish to create / use templates in Optuma you can re-enable these options via Settings - Workspace - General - Enable Legacy Templates

Templates are a great time-saving function in Optuma. Templates allow you to set up a page, using various time frames, tools, and chart styles and have those settings used for any new pages that you open.

Template Creation 1

The above example has 3 chart styles and timeframes, and a number of tools which can be applied in seconds to your charts.

*Note: Only some tools & indicators are compatible with templates.*
Specifically, only those tools that are calculated from the data will work, such as Moving Averages, Volume, and MACDs. Tools that you manually place on the chart, such as Trend Lines, Price Retracements, and Gann Fans, will only be relevant for that specific chart and should not be included when creating a template, as those tools will be applied to other charts. If you wish to include these tools you may wish to use Chart Layouts instead.

  1. Open a chart for any security, and tile additional charts if required.

  2. Adjust the chart’s properties to display as desired (for example, set up the colour scheme as Swing Relations).

  3. Ensure the chart’s time frame is set as desired (1 day for example).

  4. Apply any global tools you want displayed on the chart, eg Volume, MACD (not static tools only relevant to that specific chart, such as Trend Line or a Text Box).

  5. With all the tools applied, ensure the chart looks exactly the way you want it to for all new pages that you open (items such as zoom level, etc.).

  6. Once you are happy with the page layout, you can save the Template. This can be done by clicking on the Files menu and selecting the Save Page as Template option and giving it a name. Alternatively, you can left-click on the page tab, go to the Control Panel on the left-hand side and click the Save Page as Template located in the Actions section.

Once created, the template can be applied when opening new charts with your preferred tools, layouts, and colour scheme. It can also be applied to an existing chart or workbook already open, but note that all existing analysis will be overwritten when the template is applied.

When a new template is created, a shortcut will be added automatically to the Templates folder on your custom toolbar.
